James Clark

Mr. James Varner (Nap) Clark, 82, died peacefully at his youth camp on Wednesday July 18, 2012 following a long fruitful life serving the Lord Jesus Christ. His service was marked by a passion to present God’s priceless gift of forever life by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Kenny Hodges, Dennis Smithey, Hilton (Butch) Simmons, Daniel Brown and Richard J. (Dick) Hill officiating. Music will be led by the Ikthoos music team.
Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon.
Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nap was born on June 19, 1930, in Macon, attended Macon High School where he lettered five years in football, and graduated from Mississippi College with a B.A. in Bible and a minor in New Testament Greek.
After college he went into youth ministries where he led teenage Bible clubs and summer youth camps throughout Mississippi. Nap’s first pastorate was Coila Baptist Church followed by Sidon Baptist Church of Sidon, Cowart Baptist Church of Charleston, and Marigold Baptist Church of Marigold. 

In 1971 Nap moved to Starkville where he served as pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church for nineteen years. He was pastor of Grace Christian Community Church in Starkville and Pine Bluff Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.

Nap faithfully preached the grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone message for over 57 years. Nap’s legacy is equipping people with basic Bible truth so that they have a strong foundation on which to build their knowledge of the Word. He is also known for his Ikthoos Summer Youth Camps comprised of youth from all over the south.  Located in a college town, he was a strong influence in the lives of students attending Mississippi State University and served as Chaplain for the MSU football team for many years. Hundreds of young people from Nap’s various ministries have gone into the ministry full time serving as pastors, missionaries, and Bible teachers around the world.

Nap is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dixie Mullins Clark of Starkville; daughters, Susan Clark Karr and her husband Bradley Jason Karr, and Stephanie Clark Preston and her husband  Brian James Preston, both of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Savella Clark Crane of Pensacola, Fla., and Rita Clark Daniels of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers, Larry (Biscuit) Clark of Dallas, Texas, and Robert Clark of Naples, Fla.; and grandson Colson Grant Karr of Atlanta, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Carson Clark and Melva Varner Clark of Macon, and two brothers, Charlie Carson Clark, Jr., William Clark and sister Elizabeth Clark Conn. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following ministries: Grace Christian Community Church 100 Countryside Road, Starkville, MS, 39759; Pine Bluff Baptist Church 6923 Pine Bluff Road, Mantee, MS, 39751.

Special designations can be made to outreach ministries supported by these churches including The Evangelical Alliance (Bill Boggess of France), Emmanuel and Associates (Wyatt Gwin), New Tribes Mission (Doug Schermerhorn), Christian Thinktank (Glenn Miller), Glimpses of Grace (Dick Hill),  Emmanuel Baptist Church of Starkville, MS and also Master’s Men (Ken Sheppard).
