A Starkville man in custody and charged with one count of manslaughter and two counts of domestic violence in connection with the death of a woman who lived in the Sunset community.

Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department officials say Richard Nurse, 39, of 909 Old West Point Road was arrested and is in Oktibbeha County Jail. His bond was set at $21,000 Friday.

OCSD Lt. Brett Watson said deputies responded to a family disturbance at 180 Glenn Lane in the Sunset community and found Aleatha Edmonds, 34, a resident at that address, in “physical distress” at 6:54 p.m. Wednesday. Emergency responders from OCH Regional Medical Center transported Edmonds to the emergency room, where she was later pronounced dead.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed Edmonds’ body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Jackson for an autopsy.
It is not known at this time when the results are expected.

OCSD Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said the incident is still under investigation.

“We’re not going to know much more until we get the autopsy results back,” Garnett said.
