Tuesday was a special day for Starkville High School and Mississippi State University as a legacy was continued with Gabe Myles committing to Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs.
The SHS starting quarterback made his pledge official with a visit to Mullen’s office.
“I knew where I wanted to go so there was no need to prolong anything and just make my decision to be a Bulldog,” said Myles, whose father Eddie Myles played defensive back for the Bulldogs. “It felt good. It has been my dream to play at Mississippi State so it felt good to go ahead and commit and say I wanna be a Bulldog.”
While he’ll play the same position his father played, Gabe is not exactly following in anyone’s footsteps.
“He’s so talented,” said Eddie Myles. “Following in my footsteps…no…he’s going to far exceed those things.”
Entering his senior season, Myles wanted to remain focused on the task of getting back to the State title game.
“It is a weight off my shoulders to do what I wanted to do and what my heart said,” said the 6-foot-1, 182-pound signal caller. "The rest is history. It is a dream come true and I’m going to enjoy every moment wearing the Maroon and White.”
Last season, Myles led the Yellowjackets to the Class 5A title game and threw for 1,845 yards and 19 scores while rushing for an additional 849.
While he plays quarterback for SHS, Myles will switch sides of the football for MSU and play defensive back.
The commitment for Myles was the first of three for the Bulldogs, who now have 10 commitments from the class of 2013.View more articles in:
