Mississippi State appears to be making quite the impression on the athletes attending football summer camp this season because on Monday afternoon the Bulldogs added their third and fourth commitments of the week and the sixth and seventh potentially for the 2013 signing class.
Within minutes of each other Cord Sandberg and Chris Jones told Dan Mullen their intentions of coming to MSU, making the day exciting for State fans.
Sandberg is a talented quarterback out of Mantee, Fla. and was the top quarterback prospect on the MSU recruiting board.
"I wanted to play football in the SEC," said Sandberg. "That was important to me. I know what Coach Mullen has done with other quarterbacks and I wanted to be a part of that."
Heâs also cleared up plans to shut down his recruitment.
"I am coming up to visit on the 23rd and 24th of July," said a very excited Sandberg. "I am not going to visit anywhere else. I know this is where I want to be and I am done with recruiting. I am a Bulldog now."
Jones, on the other hand, has flown under the recruiting radar hailing from Houston in Chickasaw County. The defensive standout entered camp with a 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame and spent time working with defensive coordinator Chris Wilson.
âI like the coaching staff and the d-line,â Jones said. âI like all the stuff they do with the d-line to make them better and make themselves into men.â
Jones joined his Hilltopper teammates last Friday during MSUâs 7-on-7 tournament where he displayed his athleticism working as a tight end.
While the eye test will tell you Jones is a defensive end, he admits it doesnât matter where he lines up just as long as he is helping his team.
âThey are looking at me as a defensive tackle or a defensive end,â Jones said. âWherever they put me, thatâs where Iâm going.â
Jones and Sandberg join South Panolaâs Deon Mix and Hollendale-Simmonsâ Kent Flowers as the Bulldogs recent commitments and thatâs something Jones is happy about.
âIâm loving it man,â said Jones. âItâs great out here. Itâs a great environment and a great social status.âView more articles in:
