Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan was recently named a Designated Mississippi Fire Chief.
The certification is done through a program sponsored by the Mississippi Fire Chief’s Association and the Mississippi State Fire Academy. It’s earned by career and volunteer fire chiefs who possess established knowledge, skills and ability expected of a Mississippi Fire Chief and display willingness to support the Mississippi Fire Service. The designation is effective for two years.
The designation program is governed by a board of directors consisting of fire chiefs from a career fire department, a combination fire department and volunteer fire department, a county fire coordinator and a State Fire Academy program coordinator.
The certification is limited to personnel who serve as chiefs of their respective fire departments.
Rosenhan has been active in fire services in Starkville since 1963. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association. He became fire services coordinator for the county in 1988. He’s the only person in the state who is a member of the Institution of Fire Engineers, which is a worldwide organization that provides research and training for firefighters.
“I’ve been blessed with not only the support of the county all the time but certainly a wonderful listing or group of men and women … over the years that have gone out there and really served the community,” he said. “The spirit and dedication of our volunteer firefighters is the backbone of all this.”
