Starkville Police Chief David Lindley confirmed one person was injured in a shooting at Camelot Apartments Monday night.
Details were scarce at press time as officers conducted their investigation, but Lindley said an adult male was shot in the chest.
SPD did not release the name of the victim.
Lindley said the victim found in the apartment complex’s parking area and was still alive when transported to OCH Regional Medical Center.
It was not known if the victim’s injuries were life threatening at press time.
Lindley said SPD had a lead in the shooting and was searching for a suspect, but key witnesses at the scene were reluctant to share information.
“We’re having resistance cooperation,” Lindley said.
It is unknown what started the shooting, how many shooters participated or how many shots were fired.
When SPD arrived at the scene, gunfire was still ongoing, Lindley said. An approximate 911 call time was not known at press time.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s deputies are assisting in the investigation.
