CLEAVELAND—Mrs. Elise Wingfield Bassett of Cleveland, 65, died Tuesday, May 21, 2012 in Tampa, Fla., after a three-year battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 28 at Ray Funeral Home in Cleaveland.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ray Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bassett was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Baker and Lydia Wingfield.
Elise married her husband, Roger Bassett, on Nov. 11, 1972, in Hanover, Va.
She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years working in the agency’s real estate division and, later, as postmaster of the post office in Ruleville.
Following retirement, she performed background searches for a private company.
Elise enjoyed golf, fishing, relaxing at the family’s cabin, being outdoors, Mississippi State University baseball and, especially, visiting with family and friends.
She also loved her dogs: Cocoa, Drake and Little Man.
She is survived by her husband Roger Bassett; sons Mason Bassett (Marilyn) of Starkville and Charles Bassett (Jennifer) of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; grandsons Trent and Garrett Bassett of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; brother Walter Wingfield of Highlands, N.C.;and mother-in-law Mildred Bassett of Starkville.
Elise was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be David Robinson, Bill Brumley, Lee Speaks III, Will Reynolds, Adam Williams, Johnny Davis, Ronnie Walls, Clint Mayo, Gary Wells and Jim Welborn.
