A Starkville woman is in jail after the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office says investigators intercepted a large package of marijuana in the mail intended for the suspect.

Lt. Brett Watson told the Starkville Daily News that 41-year-old Janet Perkins, of Rockhill Road, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with a single count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana after the package was confiscated by deputies.

Watson said the amount was just shy of a kilogram, or around two pounds. The package was not disguised other than the U.S. Postal Service container holding it, and the marijuana never made it to the subject.

"Right now, I would hesitate to say where the package came from," Watson said. "It’s quite possible there will be some other arrests."

Perkins is still in the Oktibbeha County Jail, with bond set at $75,000.

Watson said this is the first time their office has dealt with Perkins.

The incident is still under investigation, but Watson said investigators have been in contact with agents from the U.S. Postal Inspector Service.

The next court date for Perkins has not been set at this time.
