Woman injured in Sunday crash

A young Starkville woman remains hospitalized from injuries suffered after the jeep she was driving crashed and overturned on Old West Point Road early Sunday evening.
Macy Christian McReynolds, 18, of 990 Old Mayhew Road, was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after initial treatment at OCH Regional Medical Center. The extent of her injuries was unknown, but her condition was serious, officials said.
McReynolds was brought to OCH after being freed from the wreckage of the white 2000 Jeep Laredo in which she crashed on Old West Point Road near the American Legion Post No. 13 building.
McReynolds was unconscious at the crash scene, according to Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department reports.
McReynolds was driving south when she lost control of the jeep in the sharp curve near the American Legion building about 7:20 p.m. Sunday. The jeep struck an embankment on the south side of the road and overturned, reports state.
East Oktibbeha volunteer firefighters and OCH paramedics freed McReynolds from the wreckage. Information on whether McReynolds was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash was not available, deputies said.
The investigation into the crash is continuing, and it is believed that the combination of the sharp curve in the roadway and rainy weather conditions played a role in the crash, said Chief Deputy George Carrithers on Monday.
“That is a dangerous curve. That curve is at the bottom of a hill coming from either direction,” Carrithers said. “That has been site of several other accidents.”
County officials have previously placed traffic signs warning motorists to drive through the curve slowly, Carrithers said.
“People just need to be careful driving through that area,” Carrithers said.
