August 5, 2010

Katherine Saunders Cleveland and Peter Jerome Gilbert were united in holy matrimony on June 5, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Gulfport. The Honorable Carter O'Ferrall Bise officiated the evening ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Watkins Cleveland of Jackson, formerly of Gulfport. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. John Dale Sibley and the late Mr. Sibley of Diamondhead, and the late Dr. and Mrs. Crawford Haralson Cleveland of Gulfport.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a candlelight organza gown originally worn in 1979 by her mother. The dress featured a Queen Anne neckline, beaded and re-embroidered Alencon lace, and hand-beaded lace appliqués , and it flowed into a chapel length train. Her cathedral length illusion veil, also worn by her mother, was edged with lace and had a scattering of Alencon lace appliqués attached to a circlet of flowers. The bride's jewelry was the groom's gift of diamond and pearl drop earrings and an heirloom pearl necklace originally belonging to her paternal great grandmother. She carried a hand tied bouquet of blush peonies.

Lauren Upshaw Welch attended her cousin as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Stacey Ritter Carter, Caroline Gilbert, Sallie Gilbert, and Emily Hill. They wore oasis blue Priscilla of Boston long satin strapless dresses. Emily Bethea read selected passages from scripture. The vocalist was Tom McCormick. The organist was Jeannie Pollard who played the traditional processional and recessional wedding music as well as other selections. The floral designer was Christina Morse.

The father of the groom served his son as best man. Groomsmen were William Cleveland, Eduardo Cuervo, Robert Scribner, and Charlie Wen.

Following the ceremony, the bride's parents hosted a reception at the Great Southern Club in Gulfport. As the sun set over the Mississippi Coast, guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeurves and danced to the big band and jazz sounds of Swingaroux from New Orleans.

On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted an elegant rehearsal dinner at Vrazels in Gulfport. Other wedding festivities included showers in Jackson, New Orleans, Gulfport and Starkville. The bride was also honored with an evening dinner party, a bridal luncheon, and a wedding day brunch in Gulfport.

Following a honeymoon trip to Mexico, the couple resides in Greensboro, North Carolina. The bride is a medical doctor beginning her residency in pediatrics at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
