Volunteers drop decision on the road

MADISON – The trip to Madison-Ridgeland Academy didn't turn out like Starkville Academy hoped it would as the Volunteers lost a 45-13 decision to the homestanding Patriots.
Starkville Academy (1-7 overall, 0-2 Class AAA, Division I) fell behind 10-0 after the first quarter and were down 37-7 at halftime.
Drew Pellum got the Vols' first points on a 72-yard run and Will White added the extra point.
In the second half, Matt Ward had the only other SA score with a 2-yard run in the third quarter.
Quarterback Kyle Henson led the Vols in rushing with 114 yards on 16 carries.
Starkville Academy had 210 yards of total offense, but it all came on the ground.
Madison-Ridgeland Academy piled up 324 total yards with 208 yards rushing and 116 passing.
Leading Starkville Academy on defense was Ryan Mann, Stephen Robertson and Adam Crittenden. Crittenden had three sacks.
The Vols continue on the road next Friday at Clarksdale-Lee Academy.
