Kirk Rosenhan/For the SDN Kirk Rosenhan/For the SDN Paramedics and volunteer firefighters gather around a pickup truck which was involved in a collision with a bus from Hebron Christian School Monday morning on U.S. Highway 82 west of Starkville. By PAUL SIMS Starkville Daily News A total of four people — including two children — were injured Monday when a pickup truck collided with a Hebron Christian School bus along U.S. Highway 82 west of Starkville, authorities said. The accident took place approximately one mile west of Highway 182 at 7:22 a.m. Monday, Mississippi Highway Patrol Lt. Randy Ginn said.
A 2001 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Lillie Whitehead of Starkville, collided with the rear of a 1992 International school bus driven by Laura Fulgham of Maben, Ginn said. Four children were aboard the bus with Fulgham. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on U.S. 82. Whitehead received moderate injuries and her passenger, Shelby Whitehead of Starkville, sustained minor injuries, the trooper said. The pickup’s occupants were transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital. Two of the children in the bus sustained minor injuries. MHP typically does not release of names of minors. The pickup’s occupants and Fulgham were wearing seatbelts. It is unclear whether seatbelts were available on the bus for the passenger seating area. The Maben and Adaton/Self Creek fire departments responded and were assisted by several other volunteer firefighters who happened upon the scene, Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said. Hebron Christian School is located in the Pheba community. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. |
