Starkville Daily News

A nationally-recognized marriage ministry leader will guide a two-day conference intended to promote healthy and strong marriages in Starkville next month.
Dr. Bob Moeller, a teacher, an author and a radio and television host, will lead the conference entitled “For Better, For Worse, For Keeps” and set for Oct. 17-18 at First United Methodist Church.
Moeller has written six books and hosts the television call-in show, “For Better, For  Worse, For Keeps,” according to promotional material on the conference.
He is the president of MarriageVine Inc. and his articles on the subject of marriage have been published in such magazines as Leadership Journal, Focus on the Family, Moody Magazine, Christianity Today and Marriage Partnership.
Jane Windham, director of children’s ministries at FUMC, is coordinating the seminar in conjunction with an event planning team within the church.
The church’s theme for the 2008-2009 school years is “Families of Faith.”
“The conference itself will promote healthy, strong marriages, so we hope the result would be for couples to realize the importance of making their marriages a priority,” Windham said, noting that “we want to offer it for a broad range of people.”
The seminar is designed to spark growth in marriages of “all ages and stages,” according to promotional material on the event.
In FUMC promotional material on the event, organizers say that if people are single again, happily married or married for a long time time, prospective attendees may not think “this seminar is for you. But we want you to consider this as an opportunity to learn about improving all of your relationships.”
The tickets are $20 a person and may be purchased in the church office Monday through Friday. The office hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon then 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
The ticket price includes dinner on Friday night, a copy of Moeller’s book “For Better, For Worse, For Keeps,” a conference notebook and childcare. Childcare will be provided on both days with an advanced reservation arranged by Oct. 10.
On Friday, the conference will take place beginning with dinner at 5:45 p.m. and concluding around 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, the conference will continue at 9 a.m. and conclude around noon. For information, call the church office at 323-5722.
