Exciting year ahead for MSU, community
Tuesday, 26 August 2008
As Mississippi State begins a new academic year and welcomes a record number of students to our campus and community, we want to say thanks once again to the citizens of the region for your great support.
The community welcome received by our students makes a great impression on them and their families, and pays dividends far into the future as today’s students become tomorrow’s alumni and leaders.
As I have visited with Bulldog families on campus and across the state during the past several months, I have been gratified by the number of parents who comment on the outstanding experience their children find here.
We are grateful that you have welcomed MSU students into your religious communities, civic and service organization events, and homes, as well as into the economic life of the area.
And we were proud to see our students organizing into Service Dawg teams to give something back to the community during the week before fall classes began.  Nearly 150 students devoted hundreds of hours of labor from harvesting watermelons to fight hunger, to collecting trash for city agencies, to helping out at local schools.
Starkville’s growing appeal as a shopping, dining, recreational, cultural and retirement destination is a boon to Mississippi State University.  At the same time, we are committed to ensuring that the university’s educational, research and outreach activities enhance the quality of life and economic opportunity the region.
Thank you for all that you do to make Starkville and the surrounding area feel like home for the thousands of students and new faculty and staff who join us each year, and for welcoming the many visitors who come for athletic and other events.
We’re excited about the promise of the year ahead and eager to work closely with you to make it the best yet.
