Local youth compete in Monopoly tournament |

For the Daily News Benjamin Jamerson, of Starkville recently emerged as the winner in an official local Monopoly Game Tournament held June 26 and 27 at the Starkville Public Library. All contestants participated in two preliminary 90-minute rounds of the Monopoly game from which the top six players went on to battle their real estate trading skills in a 90-minute final round.
After 90 minutes of play, Jamerson emerged the victor. Jonathan Emerson won second place and Brian Roberts won third. “I knew I could do it once I believed,” said Jamerson. For his victory, Jamerson, an eighth grade home school student, was awarded a grand prize of the game Clue, donated by Hasbro, in addition to a collectible Monopoly keychain and a moneybag full of candy. All Monopoly sets used during the tournament, as well as the second and third place prizes, were also donated by Hasbro. The Monopoly game, the world’s most popular proprietary board game, is licensed in more than 80 countries and printed in more than 26 languages, including French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, German, Dutch, Flemish, Swedish, Finnish, Russian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Catalan, and Hebrew. Since it first went on the market in 1935, over 200 million Monopoly games have been sold worldwide and is now played by an estimated 250 million people.
