Nineteen students from East Mississippi Community College participated in the bi-annual GED graduation ceremony held recently at the college’s Golden Triangle campus.

ves students a chance to earn high school equivalency diplomas; many continue their education in the college’s academic or career-technical areas. The evening ceremony featured two speakers, R.H. Brown, of WCBI-TV in Columbus, and state Sen. Terry Brown, R-Columbus. Graduates included  Thelma Eckers, of Prairie; Jimmie Lane, of West Point; Louise Carter, of DeKalb; Zerrick Leavy, of West Point; Codi Bridges, of Starkville; and Cecil Swindol, of West Point.
Dr. Raj Shaunak, EMCC vice president of Workforce and Community Services, presented Codi Bridges with the award for the highest average of the group on the 7.5-hour GED exam.

About 100 people graduate every year from EMCC’s GED program. The GED program includes preparation and testing in five areas – reading, math, social studies, science and writing. For more information about EMCC’s GED program, call Karen Quarrels, adult education coordinator, at (662) 243-2627.
