For the Daily News The Oktibbeha County Chapter of the American Red Cross held its annual meeting on June 10 at the First Baptist Church’s Outreach Center. Susan Brown was recognized as a new member of the Clara Barton Society, and several existing Clara Barton Society members were also recognized. Brown was also recognized for her work on the Chapter’s Fundraising Committee. Dan Jackson, Disaster Action Team Co-Chair, provided an activity report showing that the Chapter has responded to disasters in Louisville, New Albany, Oxford, and Jackson.
In addition, the chapter has spent almost one-third of its total budget on local disaster response, including single family fires. Carol Moss Read, Chapter Chair, also recognized Charlotte Fuquay for her outstanding work as a Red Cross Instructor. “Charlotte has gone above and beyond what the normal volunteer would do to advance health and safety training in our area. We appreciate her efforts tremendously,” Read said. Kasey Fulgham, a student at Starkville Academy and a Red Cross volunteer, was recognized for her contribution in creating the chapter’s scrapbook. The book will serve as an archive of the year’s events for future planning. “We are so grateful to you for opening your wallets and purses to support the Oktibbeha County Red Cross,” chapter Treasurer Mary Lynn Hardy told the group.
