SDN Staff Reports

MABEN — A 62-year-old man died in a mobile home fire here late Tuesday afternoon.
The exact cause of the blaze that killed Charlie "Bojangles" Anderson remains under investigation, but is believed to have been caused by a heating unit, said County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan on Tuesday.

Both the Sheriff's Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the blaze, which is standard procedure in a fire involving a fatality, Rosenhan said.
Maben volunteer firefighters were dispatched to Anderson's mobile home, which is located on the back end of property at 3992 Webster Street, shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
One firefighter living near Anderson's home attempted to enter the home, but could not get inside to see if he was still inside, Rosenhan said.
Maben firefighters, who were joined by Mathiston volunteer firefighters as backup, quickly brought the blaze under control. Anderson's body was soon found in what remained of the front room of the mobile home, Rosenhan said.
Anderson's family members were notified of his death Tuesday.
Anderson’s son and daughter were at the fire scene shortly after the blaze was extinguished.
Anderson's death is the third fire fatality in a mobile home to take place within a year, Rosenhan said.
Residents are reminded to check smoke detectors regularly to ensure proper working order.
