From Staff Reports CLARKSDALE – East Webster continued its upset run into Round 1 of the Class 2A playoffs as the Wolverines knocked off Coahoma County Friday night. The visiting Wolverines (6-6) dominated from start to finish and left Clarksdale with an impressive 33-8 victory. “We’ve played better in these last couple of games than we have all season long,” East Webster head coach Jimmy Carden said. Demetrius Obriant had a 131 yards on 14 carries to lead the East Webster offensive attack.
Sophomore fullback Timarkis Bell had the first two touchdowns of the game on 6 and 2-yard runs that gave the Wolverines a 14-0 halftime lead on the higher seeded Coahoma County. “Our defense stepped up today and forced some turnovers and they really only gave up the only score after we gave them a short field on the kickoff,” Carden said. Junior quarterback Ledrick Patterson had two touchdown runs in the second half on 7 and 3-yard rushes. “He’s done a real good job the last two weeks of running our offense and taking care of the football,” Carden said. “We’re pleased at how well he’s played.” The final score for the Wolverines was a 17-yard run by 5-foot-8, 180-pounds Bolo McCurry from 17 yards out. East Webster will play host to Calhoun City next week in Round 2 after the Wildcats dispatched Kennedy 18-16.
