Aldermen handle variety of city business |

City officials broke a record for short meetings Tuesday. Over a period of 45 minutes, Mayor Parker Wiseman and the Starkville Board of Aldermen approved the following: • Hiring Margo Barnette as manager of support services in the Public Services Department, an impending vacant position. The board voted 5-2 to hire Barnette with Ward 6 Alderman Roy Á. Perkins and Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn opposing. The two officials said that the $32,600 salary would be better paid to a transferring, in-house employee rather than someone “outside.” Personnel Director Randy Boyd said that while the position, currently held by Patsy Moore, carries with it the minimum requirement of a high school degree, Barnette has specific qualifications more suited to the position than other applicants. • The designation of the paying agent for the $3 million road bond, dated November 1, 2009. • The mayor’s signing of a notice of termination of coverage for the Rock Hill Gravity sewer project. • Pay request no. 2 from APAC, Inc. regarding the runway rehabilitation project in the amount of $34,949.08. • Pay request no. 2 from Clearwater Consultants regarding engineering services for the runway rehabilitation project in the amount of $10,450 from the FAA AIP grant 3-28-0068-014-2009.
• The Mississippi Department of Transportation’s 2.5 percent matching funds agreement for the FAA AIP grant No.3-28-0068-014-2009. • The city’s claims docket as of Oct. 29. • The report of receipts and expenditures for the period ending September 30, 3009. • The City of Starkville’s 2010 unmarked vehicle list. • The execution of an agreement with MDOT to comply with guidelines set forth by MDOT and the Federal Highway Administration. • Payment no. 2 for Neel-Schaffer for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Project in the amount of $15,080.98. • The advertisement for bids to replace a failing force main at the wastewater treatment facility. • A source of supply purchase of a 24 refuse containers at a total cost of $22,896.
