City officials broke a record for short meetings Tuesday.
Over a period of 45 minutes, Mayor Parker Wiseman and the Starkville Board of Aldermen approved the following:
• Hiring Margo Barnette as manager of support services in the Public Services Department, an impending vacant position.
The board voted 5-2 to hire Barnette with Ward 6 Alderman Roy Á. Perkins and Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn opposing.
The two officials said that the $32,600 salary would be better paid to a transferring, in-house employee rather than someone “outside.”
Personnel Director Randy Boyd said that while the position, currently held by Patsy Moore, carries with it the minimum requirement of a high school degree, Barnette has specific qualifications more suited to the position than other applicants.
• The designation of the paying agent for the $3 million road bond, dated November 1, 2009.
• The mayor’s signing of a notice of termination of coverage for the Rock Hill Gravity sewer project.
• Pay request no. 2 from APAC, Inc. regarding the runway rehabilitation project in the amount of $34,949.08.
• Pay request no. 2 from Clearwater Consultants regarding engineering services for the runway rehabilitation project in the amount of $10,450 from the FAA AIP grant 3-28-0068-014-2009.
• The Mississippi Department of Transportation’s 2.5 percent matching funds agreement for the FAA AIP grant No.3-28-0068-014-2009.

• The City of Starkville’s 2010 unmarked vehicle list.
