The art of digital preservation

College is an exciting time in a student’s life.
From meeting new friends to the excitement of game days, these are the times students will treasure for years to come.
Scrapbooking is a fun way to recapture these memories and to later take a vivid walk down memory lane. Those who are interested in compiling your photos into a scrapbook, but arts and crafts aren’t your thing, the Instructional Media Center has the answer for you.
The IMC is hosting its workshop “Photoshop: Digital Scrapbooking” at the Mitchell Memorial Library from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 17.
Digital scrapbooking is a cost-effective alternative to traditional scrapbooking and allows participants to “give up  the scissors, tape, glue, and mess and still be able to create memorable scrapbook pages,” said IMC assistant Bobbie Huddleston.
“Using layers and selection tools to manipulate your graphics, images and text, you can create all the looks you are looking for without having to spend so much on specialty tools. You can even put your pictures back in their frames when you’re done,” said Huddleston.
Adding text and artwork to your pictures captures the moment and brings it to life. Digital scrapbooking is also a convenient way for users to easily share these moments to family in friends everywhere, without the hassle or cost of shipping.
Participants also have the option to print their scrapbooks by bringing “a jump drive and either bring it to the IMC to print or take it anywhere they would like to print,” says Stephanie Agnew, instructional technology specialist for the IMC.
This and other workshops hosted by the Instructional Media Center are designed for everyone, from beginners  to more experienced users.
The workshop is free for students and faculty. Prior registration is required before attending and can be done by visiting http://events.library.msstate.edu.
