LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Sunday sales issue really is about freedom |

Bravo, Kelly Daniels. Finally, somebody gets it. Sunday sale of alcohol is not about economic growth or how those outside Starkville view us, although it would have a profoundly positive effect on both. It is about FREEDOM. As a Christian, I support freedom. All Christians should support freedom because God created it. When He placed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden with Adam and Eve and told them not to eat of it freedom was born. From that moment on God gave man the choice to follow him or his own desires. Nowhere in the Bible will you find God forcing anyone to follow or love him. However, throughout the Bible you will find religious leaders, such as the Pharisees, forcing their religious rules on everyone. They even tried to force them on Jesus but he would have none of it. Ironically, the Pharisees were always harping on Jesus about keeping the Sabbath and he was always having to put them in their place. Apparently some things never change. But here is a news flash — Sunday is not the Sabbath! The actual Sabbath starts on Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown. I hope that didn’t blow your small religious minds. Don’t be afraid to let people have freedom; God’s not.
