Competition has been intense, but tonight the Top 10 contestants for the Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant will be announced and a new Miss Mississippi will be crowned. The Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant airs at 8 p.m. tonight on all NBC affiliates state-wide. Among the contestants are 11 Mississippi State University students competing for the crown. Miss MSU’s Sarah Beth James is one of the contestants who will be vying for the Miss Mississippi crown. She competed last year as Miss Madison and made it to the Top 10. But she has high hopes for this year.
“I would love to be the next Miss Mississippi not only for the amazing experience of representing the state at Miss America, but also for the opportunity to meet people from all around Mississippi, to promote my platform of organ and tissue donation, and to give back to the state that has given me a great education and so much more,” James said. James is the daughter of David and Faye James of Madison. Another Mississippi State University student also has her eyes on the Miss Mississippi crown. Elizabeth Bailey, 19, is the daughter of Dr. Chip and Laura Bailey of Philadelphia. She is a sophomore biological sciences major at MSU with a concentration in pre-med. Bailey said preparing for the state pageant has been a lot of fun, but a lot of work that requires dedication. For the talent competition, Bailey will perform Beethoven’s sonata “Pathetique mov.1 op.13.” She has played the piano for over 14 years and it her passion. Miss Mississippi Week began Monday with rehearsals and a traditional parade of the contestants through downtown Vicksburg. There was an autograph party in the Horizon Hotel lobby following the parade. Contestants were divided into three groups as they move through the five phases of the Miss Mississippi competition. Tuesday through Friday, contestants rotated through the various levels of competition. On Friday night, the Miss Mississippi Party was held at the Roca Restaurant, located at the Vicksburg Country Club. All of the week’s adventures leads up to today, and the live broadcast of the Top 10 contestants. The program will conclude at 10 p.m. when the new Miss Mississippi will be announced.
