A tractor ablaze

October 9, 2010

District 5/Oktoc volunteer firefighter Stefan Lewis begins pouring water onto a burning tractor in a field off Poorhouse Road shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday. The fire was discovered when Terry Skinner, chief of the District 5/Oktoc Volunteer Fire Department, spotted a plume of black smoke as he was driving toward Starkville on South Montgomery Street. Firefighters had the blaze extinguished within two minutes of arriving. What caused the tractor fire, which occurred on property owned by Bill Cooke, remains under investigation, said County Fire Service Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan Saturday afternoon.
