A tornado watch is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday for Oktibbeha and 38 other counties in northeast Mississippi.
The National Weather Service in Jackson posted the alert shortly after noon Tuesday. Storms are expected to sweep through the area during the afternoon and evening, clearing early Wednesday morning.
Residents of Oktibbeha and all surrounding counties are urged to keep an eye out for low, rotating dark clouds, and take shelter immediately if those are seen.
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are expected with 1 to 3 inches of rain, possible hail, and the potential for one or two tornadoes, according to the weather service.
