The Mississippi State Bulldogs finally saw their star pitcher back on the field after 18 games.
The Bulldogs played the first part of their non-conference schedule without junior Alexis Silkwood, but she finally made her return on Sunday. A combined shutout from Silkwood and sophomore Cassady Knudsen helped lead the Bulldogs by Western Kentucky 7-0 to finish off a 4-1 weekend in Starkville.
“The whole staff has been in some spots where they had to grow up and play tough and I think it will absolutely benefit them in the long run,” MSU head coach Vann Stuedeman said of MSU’s young pitchers having to step up in Silkwood’s absence. “They’ve all responded really well and I feel like it will really help us down the stretch.”
