With students in the Starkville-Oktibbeha County School District out of school for the week, Starkville offers numerous family-friendly activities for spring breakers.

The Starkville Sportsples will host Toddler Time for ages four and under from 9 a.m. until noon on March 17 to allow young children to play in the gymnasium.

“We wanted to do this to allow the toddlers to have some time in the gym,” Parks and Recreation program coordinator Lisa Cox said. “A lot of time it’s full of older kids playing basketball. It’s a time for them to run around if they want to.”

Cox said small soccer and basketball goals= and balls will be set up for the children along with tunnels to play in.

The admission to toddler is one canned food item for the department to donate to local food banks in the community.

Cox said Toddler Time will become an ongoing program with events throughout the coming weeks and weekends.

Aside from Toddler Time, Cox said the gymnasium at the Sportsplex will be open daily. Admission is $3 for anyone 17 and under and $5 for anyone 18 and older.

While the National Weather Service in Jackson is predicting rain for the weekend, the week should offer sun and temperatures in the high 50s and 60s, allowing residents to take full advantage of Starkville’s parks.

“We just got a new playground at J.L. King Park, so that would be great for parents and kids to go check that out,” Cox said. “McKee Park, Patriots Park and Moncrief as well all have playground equipment.”

Skate Odyssey is offering several events for spring breakers. Spring Break Skate will be daily for $6 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on March 12 - March 16. Skate rentals cost extra. From 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. March 13,

Skate Odyssey is offering All-U-Can-Eat pizza and drinks for $10, including skate rental. The skating rink will host Throwback Thursday beginning 7 p.m. on March 15 for $5, including skate rentals.

Throughout the week of spring break, Hollywood Premier Cinemas, located at 101 Hollywood Premier Boulevard, will show films including “Peter Rabbit” (rated PG), “A Wrinkle in Time” (rated PG) and “Black Panther” (rated PG-13).
