Two of the three victims in Sunday morningâ€™s shooting on the Sudduth Elementary School only suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization, Starkville Police Department officials say.
In a statement Tuesday, police officials said the investigation revealed that two of the three teenage victims â€” whose names are being withheld amid concerns for their safety â€” were treated at the scene for minor injuries and not hospitalized.
The third victim was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center, treated and released, police said in the statement.
No other new information in the incident is being released.
The incident was reported shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday when one of the three victims flagged down SPD patrol officers near the school property. The officers called for OCH paramedics, police officials said.
The victims told police that the shooting occurred while they were skateboarding on the newer paved areas around the Sudduth school building since there is little traffic there, police officials said.
The exact circumstances of the shooting itself remain under investigation, and SPD detectives are following multiple leads, officials said. SPD officials have not confirmed the type of firearm used in the incident,
SPD officials did confirm on Monday that detectives are investigating multiple suspects in connection with the incident, but said they could not release further information because they were will still working to verify certain facts in the case.
Police did stress that while the incident occurred on the Sudduth property, no students, teachers or anyone connected with the school was involved.
