After the weekend that Starkville High had on the coast this past weekend, coach Travis Garner was looking for something good to happen this week.
The Yellowjackets went to the coast and came back 0-2 with losses to two top teams in Gulfport and D’Iberville.
Things were different back home, however, as the Jackets got their first win of the year on Monday night.
Behind a strong start from J.D. Taylor and a big night at the plate up and down the lineup, Starkville dominated visiting Choctaw County 13-0 in five innings.
“We’re a team that can hit," Garner said. "Our biggest question mark is our arms. We went down last weekend and played some good teams. We hit OK, but our arms weren’t very good. J.D. didn’t pitch, but he’s a guy that has really good stuff.”
