This Sunday, Aug. 29, marks the fifth anniversary of the landfall of Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi-Louisiana coastline. The storm destroyed towns on the Mississippi coast and broke the Mississippi River and Lake Ponchartrain levees in New Orleans, La., resulting in devastating flooding across the city and surrounding areas. When all was said and done, Katrina caused $81 billion in damage and took more than 1,836 lives and impacted all of Mississippi.
Sunday’s edition of the Starkville Daily News will take a look back at how the storm impacted our community, and the newspaper staff would like to include perspectives from readers on the impact the storm had on them and their loved ones.
Readers can send their thoughts by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or drop written comments by the SDN offices at 304 E. Lampkin St. during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) today through Friday. All submissions must be made by 9 p.m. Friday.
