Names of crash victims released

September 1, 2010

Mississippi Highway Patrol officials have released the names of those involved in Tuesday afternoon’s fatality crash on U.S. 82.
The crash, which occurred about 4:15 p.m. on U.S. 82 just east of the Polly Bell Road intersection saw the collision of a westbound yellow 2007 Mack tractor-trailer with a green 1998 Dodge pickup from behind, causing it to crash into a blue Ford farm tractor from behind.
However, the specific circumstances of the accident remain under investigation, MHP spokesman Brian Mobley said.
Sammie Jones, 41, of Maben, who was driving the blue tractor, died from his injuries at the crash scene, MHP officials said.
The pickup’s driver Raymond Poe Jr., 58, of Pheba was transported by helicopter to North Mississippi Medical Center for intensive medical treatment. Information on his medical condition could not be obtained Wednesday.
The tractor-trailer was being driven by Fred Culver, 39, of Forest City, Ark. Culver was not injured in the crash, Mobley said.
The crash saw response from Maben and other volunteer firefighters. MHP troopers and other officials were seen at the crash site until almost 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Information on funeral arrangements for Jones will be published as soon it becomes available.
