The Friends of Noxubee Refuge will hold Music and Nature on Saturday, September 25 at the Noxubee Refuge Visitor Center 9 to 11 a.m. Registration required.
The Music and Nature event is a musical get-together to discover the sounds of natural materials and to explore the natural world through sound. Join percussion artist Dr. Robert Damm (MSU Professor of Music and Director of Music Education Partnerships) for a wonderful time of learning how to make simple percussion instruments from natural materials found at the Refuge and to learn about the instruments cultural roots. You will experience the sounds of these instruments by participating in an improvised jam session during the second half of this event featuring guitarist Ed Swan. Musical experience is not required and anyone of any age can participate. You will be allowed to take an instrument home. Participation is limited to 25, so we recommend you register soon by calling Noxubee Refuge at 323-5548 Ext. Please specify how many in your party will be actively participating. This event was also made possible with the help from Dr. John Guyton who prepared all the instruments.
