Game one in Nusz Park was “Vanntastic” as the Mississippi State Bulldogs kicked off their 25th season of softball with a brand new stadium.
Behind sophomore pitcher Holly Ward’s complete game shutout, the Bulldogs were strong on defense and put the pressure on Georgia Southern offensively to get win number one on the season 6-0 in the Bulldog Kickoff Classic.
Nerves were definitely a factor for the Bulldogs in front of a huge crowd in the debut of Nusz Park. They couldn’t get the bats hot most of the game, but the young sophomore Ward made the most of her opportunity.
“I just think you have to believe in yourself, work the process and things will work out,” Ward said. I was definitely excited when (coach) Vann (Stuedeman) told me I was starting. What an honor to pitch in the first ball game in the new stadium. What an honor.”
