Mississippi Public Broadcasting on Friday, April 28, will air a new documentary focusing on past racial issues in Yazoo City.

“Yazoo Revisited: Integration and Segregation in a Deep Southern Town,” focuses on the 1970 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that implemented full integration of public schools and how race relations have developed in the area since the decision.

The integration of schools in Yazoo City takes center stage in the documentary, with emphasis on the “peaceful manner in which the black and white communities came together to see the transition through was widely seen as a model for success, at least for a couple of decades.”

Filmmaker David Rae Morris - son of famous author and Yazoo City native Willie Morris - produced the documentary to explore the integration story in his father’s home town.

The documentary will air on MPB at 8 p.m. on April 28, with an encore presentation slated for Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m.

A preview of the film is available at www.mpbonline.org.
