Maurice Boyd was born October 11, 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. James and Johnnie Etta Boyd in Starkville. Maurice was the ninth of ten children.
After graduating from Henderson High School in 1968, Maurice attended Mississippi Valley State and later joined the National Guard where he served active duty. At the age of 25, Maurice began his career at United Parcel Service (UPS) where he graced customers and friends with a smile and a charismatic attitude for 31 years. In 2006, Maurice retired from UPS on his 56th birthday.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Boyd Jr. and Lester Boyd; and one sister, Maybelle Banks.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of nearly 30 years, Mrs. Sharon Boyd, of Starkville; four children, Reginald Nichols (LaTonia) of Illinois, Amanda Collins (Kent) of Arkansas, Elâ€™ Freda Agboka (Joseph Ofori Jr.) of Michigan, and Joni Boyd (Jason Acuff) of Ohio; nine grandchildren, Dontaâ€™ Nichols, Niaeri Hawkins, J. Omari Agboka III, Victoria Collins, Amaya Agboka, Raina Collins, Jata Acuff, Kendra Collins and Jaysin Acuff Jr.; two sisters, Lily Mae Boyd of Missouri and Catherine Holt of Illinois; and three brothers, John William Boyd (Delphine) of Indiana, Eugene Boyd (Deborah) of Indiana, Melvin Boyd (Shirley) of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at First John Baptist Church, 1300 Boyd Road, Starkville, followed by burial at 6 p.m., at Boydâ€™s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church, and family hour will be from 4 to 5 p.m.
