Man jailed in Monday shooting

October 26, 2010

A 22-year-old Starkville man remains jailed as the prime suspect in the shooting of another man in the lower jaw early Monday evening.
Quincy Lamichael Brownlee, 22, of 1688 Bennett Drive, remains jailed on an aggravated assault charge in the incident, which occurred about 5 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Peoples Street and Highland Street.
Brownlee’s bond will be set when he makes an initial Municipal Court appearance.
Starkville Police Department officers were sent to the Peoples Street-Highland Street intersection about 5 p.m. Monday. after receiving a report of gunshots in that area.
Upon arrival, officers found a black Buick Roadmaster damaged by what they believed to be multiple shots fired from a small-caliber handgun, said SPD detectives in a statement released late Tuesday.
Witnesses told officers that a silver vehicle had pulled up next to the Buick and that a black male with his hair in dreadlocks and wearing a black T-shirt and white shorts began shooting into the Buick, striking another 30-year-old black male in the jaw, SPD detectives said.
The man, whose name was not released Tuesday, was treated at OCH Regional Medical Center Monday night and released Tuesday morning. The extent of his injury from the gunshot wound was not released.
The ensuing investigation led police to identify Brownlee as the prime suspect in the shooting incident, though SPD detectives have not released information on what led them to Brownlee.
After eluding police the rest of Monday night and before sunrise Tuesday, Brownlee turned himself in to police Tuesday morning without incident and was promptly arrested, SPD detectives said.
Anyone with additional information about the shooting incident is encouraged to call the Police Department at 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
All Crime Stoppers tips are confidential and could result in a reward of up to $1,000 if the tip leads to arrest and conviction in this case or any felony crime.
