The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have come a long way in one year.
After only getting eight wins in the 2014-15 season, the Lady Vols have more than doubled that production this season with 21 victories.
Starkville Academy girls basketball coach Glenn Schmidt likes the progress of her squad as it begins competition at the AAA State Tournament this afternoon at Brookhaven Academy. The Lady Vols are set to play Silliman Institute at 3 p.m.
“I don’t like to talk about wins and losses, but this group was able to get 20 wins over a hard, long season and some of them have come really hard,” Schmidt said.
Starkville Academy was able to get the No. 3 seed out of the North with Saturday’s 44-33 victory over Heritage Academy.
Schmidt was pleased with the momentum the Lady Vols created with the win against the rival Lady Patriots.
“We played a great second half against them,” Schmidt said. “We seem to be a second-half team and seem to build momentum through the game,. If we can start the game with the momentum we finished the second half with on Saturday afternoon, we’ll be in good shape with this group.”
