Pumpkin Book Report

Ward Stewart students in Itaska Rosamond’s and Stephanie Bullard’s class put a Halloween spin on their recent book report.
Students decorated a pumpkin to look like the main character of the book, and then wrote a report on the book.
The children got inventive with paint, pipe cleaner, fake hair, cotton balls, markers and anything else they could think of to make their pumpkin character look like the real thing.

Starkville Academy Pumpkin Carving Contest

By the time October rolls around, the Starkville Academy students in Robin Pigg’s art 2 class are getting restless with drawing projects, so Pigg breaks things up with a pumpkin carving contest.
The students are encouraged to get as creative as possible as all students in junior high and high school vote on their favorite pumpkin.
The top three winners receive gift cards purchased by Pigg.

"The Ugly Pumpkin"

Each year, the Ward Stewart students in Debbie Vanderford’s class put on a production of “The Ugly Pumpkin”.
“We’ve invited parents, grandparents, custodians, the principal, attendance officer, and guidance counselors,” Vanderford said. “It’s been really fun for my students, while educational at the same time.”
“Working together on this program has helped to increase their reading fluency and the use of expression,” Vanderford explained. “It’s helped to build their confidence levels for performing in front of an audience. It has encouraged them to work cooperatively together. It also made learning the bones of the body simple and fun.”

Trick or Treat Parade

The students of West Oktibbeha County Elementary parade, while the kindergartners opted for a hay ride, the streets of downtown Sturgis Thursday for trick or treating.
The downtown shop owners, and even Mayor Walter Turner, volunteered to pass out candy and make the children’s day.
