Haines book signing set for today

August 11, 2010

Learn more about latest Sarah Booth Delaney adventures in a special book signing event today at the Book Mart in downtown Starkville.
“Bone Appetit” author Carolyn Haines will be at the Book Mart from 3 to 5 p.m. today.
Between swimsuit competitions and soufflés, Sarah Booth Delaney must find out which of the ambitious young ladies in a Southern beauty pageant is to blame for murder in “Bone Appetit” (Minotaur Books; On Sale: June 22, 2010; Price $24.99), the latest in Haines’ wonderfully Southern mystery series.
For years now, Jitty, Dahlia House’s resident ghost, has been dreaming that Sarah Booth Delaney would have a child in order to keep the ancestral home in the family.
Then, when Jitty’s dream finally looks like it’s going to become reality, Sarah Booth is crushed when it doesn’t.
Depressed, unable to work, Sarah Booth finally allows her best friend Tinkie to take her to a special spa and cooking school.
The pampering and good food go a long way toward making her feel like her old self, but it’s the women who are in the midst of a beauty pageant and cook-off that really takes Sarah Booth’s mind off her woes.
Sarah finds all the backbiting and snarkiness to be great fun — UNTIL — the already heated competition boils over when the top contender is poisoned and the most likely suspect hires Sarah Booth and Tinkie to clear her name.
Reviewers agree that yet again, Haines delivers an edge-of-your-seat, full-of-Southern charm mystery, leaving readers intrigued to find out Sarah Booth Delaney’s next move.
Haines is the author of 18 novels, including nine previous titles in this mystery series, and the recipient of the prestigious 2009 Richard Wright Award for Literary Excellence.
Adding to her accolades, Haines was given the 2010 Harper Lee Award.
Born and raised in Mississippi, she now lives in Alabama on a farm with more dogs, cats, and horses than she can possibly keep track of, Haines says.
