The next of several planned Blue Ribbon Business Resources Series events – focused on offering programs relevant to current business topics – will take place early next month and take a look at immigration law.
The goal of the Blue Ribbon Series “is to bring quality programming that is relevant to current business issues and present those” to both Greater Starkville Development Partnership members and the public, said Allison Matthews, the GSDP’s vice president of membership and community development.
The series – designed to provide events focused on a topic which impacts small businesses – will include Power Breakfasts, Lunch and Learns and – occasionally – another special seminar outside of meal times, she said.
The series technically started with a special evening seminar on family business issues in August, “but at this point, we are launching a series of events that are scheduled through” September 2011, Matthews said.
The Nov. 4 Power Breakfast will feature a program entitled “Survival Guide for Employers in the Immigration Law Jungle.” The speaker will be Carol Armstrong of Armstrong Law LLC, with offices in Starkville and Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 8 a.m. at the TVA Customer Service Center in the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park. The cost is $10 for non-GSDP members and $5 for members.
Matthews expressed thanks to T.E. Lott for sponsoring the first Power Breakfast of the series.
Some of the next events include:
• A Nov. 18 Lunch and Learn at the Veranda focusing on the Chamber Plus program along with the current health care legislation.
• Another Lunch and Learn, this time at the Hilton Garden Inn Dec. 9, will provide information on the Small Business and Self-Employed operation at the Internal Revenue Service.
The series will continue with a national speaker in February and Power Breakfasts and Lunch and Learns in the spring and summer. Additional details on future events – including the ones Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 – will be forthcoming.
