When two good teams face off, sometimes it all comes down to which squad makes the first mistake. Such was the case on Saturday in the championship game of the Southeastern Conference Softball Tournament.
In the second inning with two outs in a scoreless game, LSU committed a costly error that led to four unearned runs for Auburn. The gaffe turned out to be just the spark Auburn needed to claim the SEC Tournament crown with a 7-1 victory over LSU at Mississippi State's Nusz Park.
“Softball is a game of inches and a few more inches and we don’t score those four runs,” Auburn second baseman and tournament Most Valuable Player Emily Carosone said.
