Game day shuttle routes unveiled

September 2, 2010

The downtown shuttle running for Mississippi State University home football games will take fans to and from campus with three stops overall.
The shuttle is sponsored by the Starkville Main Street Association, the City of Starkville and the MSU Student Association.
“The primary reason that we fund this shuttle is so that shoppers and diners at” Starkville’s downtown retailers and restaurants “can enjoy their time downtown right up until game time and can ride the shuttle to and from campus to make their visit more enjoyable,” said Jennifer Gregory, Greater Starkville Development Partnership vice president of tourism development Starkville Main Street Manager.
The shuttle runs three hours prior to kick off and for two hours after the game.
This year, the shuttles are equipped with GPS locators. Shuttle arrival times and locations are available on the MSU transportation website, which is http://transit.msstate.edu/.
This site can be accessed by a computer or smartphone.
In downtown, there are two stops – one at the Circuit Court building off West Main Street and the other in front of the Starkville Daily News, located on Lampkin Street.
On campus, the shuttle stops at McArthur Hall, just northeast of Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field.
The route follows a path roughly from McArthur up Collegeview Street, back down to University Drive off Nash Street, west on University to West Main Street. From its first stop in downtown, the shuttle continues down West Main to Cushman Street, then heads east on Lampkin Street to the SDN stop, then loops back up to University off of Montgomery Street. From University, the shuttle heads east back toward campus and the McArthur stop, which is on what becomes Barr Avenue on campus.
Kickoff for Saturday’s season-opening game where the MSU Bulldogs host the University of Memphis Tigers is 6 p.m. For information on the Game Day Downtown Shuttle, call Jennifer Gregory at 323-3322 weekdays or the Parking Assistance Center on campus at 325-9114 on Saturday.
