Former MSU hoops coach to headline Breakfast with the Bulldogs

Former Mississippi State men's basketball coach Richard Williams will be the guest speaker at the December installment of Breakfast with the Bulldogs, hosted by the Oktibbeha County Chapter of the MSU Alumni Association.

The Dutch treat breakfast will be held at City Bagel on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 a.m.

Williams served as head coach from 1986 to 1998 and is the second most successful coach in school history with 191 victories (191–163 .540). His career mark at MSU was topped only by his former assistant, Rick Stansbury.

Williams led the 1991 team to a Southeastern Conference championship and made the NCAA tournament losing in the first round to Eastern Michigan. His 1995 squad made the Sweet Sixteen, and his 1996 squad made the school's only Men's Final Four appearance losing to Syracuse 77–69.

During his time at MSU, Williams received two SEC Coach of the Year awards.

After leaving MSU, Williams coached the Memphis Houn'Dawgs of the ABA and the Jackson Rage of the WBA. and coached for a time at his alma mater, Pearl High School.

He then served as the director of Basketball Administration at UAB in 2008 and in 2009 he was named the Director of Basketball Administration and Program Coordinator for the Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team on a volunteer basis.

Williams now serves as the color commentator for the Mississippi State Bulldogs basketball team's radio broadcasts with Neil Price.
