Be the first to see the Christmas trees decorated by some of the most talented local designers at the 2010 Festival of Trees event.
The fun begins at 10 a.m. and will continue through 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Palmerio Center on the Mississippi State University campus. Entry fee is $5 at the door and all the proceeds go to benefit the United Way of North Central Mississippi.
And donâ€™t forget the Gingerbread Village! This year, organizers have added several model trains that will drive through the dozens of Gingerbread creations on display as part of the event.
Jennifer Gregory, chairman for the 2010 Festival of Trees said some of the most popular Gingerbread creations included a Gingerbread house in the shape of the Humphrey Coliseum, several modeled after churches with stained glass windows, and more. This year, the group focused on recruiting local bakers and caterers to create Gingerbread Houses and Gregory said that effort has been well worth it. She said the elaborate model train display in the Gingerbread Village adds a level of excitement to the event.
Tuesday and Wednesday, the event will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. The event will not be open Thursday to get ready for the Holiday Party and Auction, set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Palmerio Center.
The black-tie optional Holiday Party and Auction will be held, giving ticket holders the opportunity bid on the decorator Christmas trees and Gingerbread House items.
Tickets for the Holiday Party and Auction will be $40 per person or $80 per couple. A maximum of 250 tickets will be sold for this event. Tables of 10 may be reserved for $400.
All tickets must be purchased in advance at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Office, 200 East Main Street, Starkville; or the United Way Office, 1016G Louisville Street, Starkville, or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve tickets. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Festival of Trees will be closed Friday, but return Saturday with a special event for Children, but tickets much be purchased in advance. The Cookies with Santa event will be held Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Tickets will be $10 per child, with a maximum of 200 tickets to be sold. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets price includes time with Santa. Bring the camera to take photos. Children will also enjoy homemade cookies, face painting, and a special craft with help from the Festival of Trees elves.
