VARDAMAN – The East Webster Wolverines used a 178-yard rushing effort by Demetrius O'Briant to help 390 yards of total offense to defeat Vardaman on the road 37-0.
Bolo McCurry got the scoring starting for East Webster (3-0) with 6 seconds remaining in the first quarter with an 11-yard run.
The Wolverines hit a big play in the second quarter when quarterback Ledrick Patterson found Tyler Griggs on a 58-yard scoring pass. O'Briant ran in the two-point conversion after the earlier extra point failed and East Webster held a 14-0 lead.
In the third quarter, O'Briant had a 15-yard run for a touchdown to extend the margin to 21-0, then put the game away in the fourth quarter with a pair of 8-yard scoring runs by Tamakis Bell.
The Wolvierines scored once more on a team safety when Vardaman snapped the football over the head of the punter out of the end zone.
Bell followed O'Briant in the rushing department with 91 yards on 14 carries as East Webster totaled 325 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Lilton Vance had 12 total tackles and a pass deflection for the Wolverines and Xavier Moye added 10 tackles.
"Things went well obviously," East Webster coach Jimmy Carden said. "We did turn it over a couple of times, but the offensive line took over the ball game pretty quick. We had a couple of drives that we didn't score on that we drove down inside the 20 and got a penalty or two.
"The offense clicked really well and the defense bent a little but didn't break, but in the second half they played real well. It was a good football game for us and I was proud of the kids."
The Wolverines return home next Friday hosting Houlka in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on the road.
