East Webster opens season with road win

PONTOTOC – Demetrius O'Briant and Ledrick Patterson did all of the scoring Friday night for the East Webster Wolverines as they defeated South Pontotoc 35-14 on the road to open the season.
O'Briant rushed 24 times for 221 yards and three scores, while Patterson added 51 yards and two more touchdowns.
Patterson got the scoring started with 10:29 left in the first quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, then East Webster went up 21-0 by halftime with a 26-yard scoring run by O'Briant and a 14-yard rushing TD by Patterson.
In the second half, the two teams traded scores, but Patterson and O'Briant made sure their touchdowns kept the Wolverines with enough of a cushion. O'Briant had a 17-yard scoring run in the third quarter and O'Briant added a 1-yard TD on the ground in the fourth quarter.
East Webster's highly productive running game produced 405 yards.
The Wolverines will have their home opener next week against rival West Oktibbeha. The Timberwolves defeated West Lowndes 31-14 on Friday.
