East Webster downs Mantachie for 2A North title

For one last time, Bailie Springfield took the circle in Cumberland to pitch for the East Webster Lady Wolverines.
For one last time, Springfield pitched a shutout.
With a tough Mantachie squad in town and a trip back to Ridgeland for the Class 2A State Championship on the line, Springfield needed some help. Her defense delivered with play after play and the Lady Wolverines got key two-out hits on their way to the 4-0 win and a north state championship.
“That bunch (Mantachie) was the best two-strike swinging team we’ve seen all year,” head coach Lee Berryhill said. “We saw a lot of batters get two strikes and we couldn’t put them away. The defense made plays, especially when they had to.”
