City Hall moving day

the city archives date back to the late 1870s, according to a clerk's office employee

The Starkville city government is moving to a new city hall at 110 West Main St., Nov. 5 and 6. Movers from Williams Transfer and Storage spent all day moving furniture and all city administrative related items from 101 East Lampkin St., which had been the site of city hall since 1968. The building was donated to the city from the Mississippi National Guard. The Starkville Police Department will occupy the entirety of the old building. After two years of construction, the new city hall will hold a grand opening in December, according to Mayor Parker Wiseman. The new building will integrate a larger municipal courtroom, updated telecommunications systems, as well as a new caller identification system. City Clerk Lesa Hardin spearheaded the moving effort but lauded her staff's work ethic. (Photos: Austin Montgomery/SDN)
