Chance of severe weather ahead Tuesday

Authorities across the state are warning of potential severe weather for Tuesday and into Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service in Jackson is expecting "very active" activity in the Golden Triangle in the afternoon.

Supercell storms developing could be "highly favorable," according to E-911 Director Shank Phelps.

"We have been told that we have a significant threat for damaging winds, strong tornadoes and up to 1 inch hail," Phelps said in an E-911 news release.

All areas north of Interstate 20 have the potential to see strong tornadoes, he said.

The most significant risk for Oktibbeha County could be between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., Tuesday, according to Phelps.

"This is going to be a lingering weather event," Phelps said in the E-911 news release. "[It] doesn't appear to be just one line, instead several super cells that can produce a slow, damaging effect."
