Celebrating the local people who participated in a very special time in world history.
The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum and Starkville Reads are joining forces to honor those who sacrifices made history.
In celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the end of World War II, community leaders have planned a variety of activities to commemorate this special occasion.
Organizers are excited about honoring local WWII veterans and their families, due to the large number of WWII veterans living in this area. Throughout this year, volunteers at the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum have been interviewing WWII veterans in an attempt to capture their stories. These video-taped interviews will be officially recorded and archived to help younger generations learn more about local members of “The Greatest Generation.”
And on August 28, these “local heroes” will take part in a special celebration at the Colvard Student Union.
During the remainder of August, two exhibits will be on display in the community, featuring WWII memorabilia at the Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum and local aviation history the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Welcome Center.
Organizers are keenly interested in archiving the local aviation history of the area, due to the important role local aviation research played on a national stage.
